Keeping Your Children Away from Gambling
There's nothing worse than seeing your children losing control of their young lives because of an addiction to something. It could be addiction to video games, the internet, game consoles, illegal drugs; and illegal gambling.
When does gambling become illegal anyway? When people who play are not within the legal age; or when people who play in certain states know that gambling is prohibited there?
Posing a question of the legality or illegality of gambling will give you thousands of opinions each from opposing points of view. However, as a parent, what other people say about gambling doesn't matter. What matters is how you can keep your child off gambling for good, if possible.
You'll be surprised to know that there is a large percentage of the youth today that are already deep into gambling with their peers. Especially now with the mushrooming of gambling portals left and right over the internet, children can easily break into these sites and start betting.
If you see that your children has more money than their usual allowance; that they either spend most of their time clicking away on the internet or meeting friends after school; and start missing classes, grades are slipping; something is definitely amiss.
Confronting your children about gambling could stop them for awhile but they can easily go back to their old ways once they know that their parents aren't looking. Having a serious talk with him about the consequences of gambling could be better.
Affirming your love for your children will make them feel more open to what you're going to say about their gambling problem. Seeking the help of a child expert could also work. Just make sure that as parents, you will be with your children every step of the way.
Being judgmental will not do the trick. If anything, you could be giving your children the feeling that parents really don't understand their children hence; why should they care what you think? However, you can also prevent this whole thing from happening if you talk to your children early on about what gambling is and what it can do to them. Letting them know that you are aware of all the gambling sites and how they work; will make your children think that they can't get away with it.
Spending more time with your children, bonding with them and doing activities as a family is the best way to bring up well-rounded children who will not look elsewhere for attention.
